a) ATTAC Capability Contract


Scot Colquhoun from BAE Systems presented the ATTAC Availability Transformation: Tornado Aircraft Contract. He especially pointed out the challenges when industrially implementing IPS² business models as well as suggestions for further research.

b) PSS or SE research in Japan


Prof. Arai provided an insight into the current Japanese situation of IPS² research. He focused on the combination of Service Engineering and PSS research enabling a holistic view on this topic.

c) IPS² in Practice


The presentation was given by Gerhard Gudergan; it focused on case study based examples of IPS² and their characterization. Finally he pointed out that more examples and statistical data on IPS² would complete this list of case studies; any contribution on this is welcome.

Report on Bochum IPS² Spring School 2008


On 25 – 29 February 2008 the first international Spring School on Industrial Product-Service Systems (IPS²) took place in Bochum. The week long event was organized by the participating chairs from the Ruhr-University Bochum, the TU Berlin, the University of Cranfield (UK) and the TU Kaiserslautern. During the Spring School 19 participating PHD-students from the involved chairs had the opportunity to expand their knowledge and get to know new perspectives on the topic via technical presentations and group work sections.

Update on Cranfield IPS² Spring School 2009 (23-27 February)


The next Spring School will take place on 23 – 27 February 2009 in Cranfield (UK) under the direction of Prof. Rajkumar Roy. The coming event will be accessible for all CIRP Research Affiliates as well as the research assistants and PHD-students of the working group members. The maximum number of participants will be 20; costs have to be shared and will be circulated by Prof. Roy as soon as possible. Please nominate your candidates with detailed CVs and one page write up on the usefulness of the training by the 30th of November 2008 to r.roy@cranfield.ac.uk. Subsequently: Cost per person will be £250 for the week (excluding accommodation). The fee will include the Spring School running costs, food during the day and a Spring School Dinner.

Miscellaneous


On 1-2 April 2009 the first official CIRP conference on IPS² will take place in Cranfield back to back with the CIRP Design conference. Linköping University has indicated their interest in applying for organizing the CIRP IPS² Conference 2010. Further applications for future IPS² conferences and spring schools are welcome, please contact Professor Meier asap.
