Meeting of the IPS² working group members

First meeting of the IPS² working group

During the 57th General Assembly of the CIRP in Dresden (Germany) a meeting of the CIRP working group on IPS² took place on 24 August 2007.

Intended to exchange experiences and clarify the future fields of work the meeting was a complete success!

Throughout the entire meeting various points of issue came up so that lively and serious discussion took place.
Several well known CIRP-members like Prof Alting, Prof. Bley and Prof. Wiendahl participated in this meeting. They put strength on the importance of the working group issue and sparked great incentives for the further cooperation.

Especially Mr. Reinhold Gross (see photo), Services Director of TRUMPF Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH + Co., made a valuable contribution to the meeting by illustrating the industrial view on IPS². His presentation clearly stated out the significance of the IPS² issue within industrial enterprises.
Prof. Roy presented the future events that the working group will attend to.
For example next year a summer school on IPS² will take place in Bochum. This first summer school is restricted to the working group members for testing the organization and the advantages of this platform first of all. The year after the summer school will be open for all relevant people like CIRP Research Affiliates or research assistants and PhD students of the CIRP members.

After presenting the intended activities the fields of work were specified during an interesting discussion between the participants.
The main topics resulting from this were:
- Service production systems (knowledge based / driven)
- Knowledge in Service
- International issues
- Productivity and quality of IPS²
- Hybrid enterprise profile (organization, communication, transition)
- Case Studies (detailed categories)
- Sustainability (What does it mean?, Product/System design?)
- IPS² change management (different Life-cycles)

Important output of the meeting was that industrial people should be invited for further events to get an overview on the state of the art in industrial enterprises.
The presentation of Mr. Groß and Prof. Meier are available at the Intranet on this site.
