1./2./3. Opening, Welcome, Introduction of invited guests, approval of the Agenda

The meeting was opened by the chairman H. Meier at 10:30. He welcomed all members and asked the invited guests to give a short introduction. Afterwards he officially opened the meeting. The agenda was approved without remarks.

4. IPS2 Keynote 2010 presentation and discussion

Prof. Meier, Prof. Roy and Prof. Seliger gave a brief introduction about the structure of the IPS² Keynote paper, the working progress and put it on discussion. One important aspect of the discussion was the design of the IPS²-framework. In comparison to the product business, first you have to make clear what you want to sell and what are the demands of the customers? Companies will create markets in the future no products anymore. These points have to be integrated into the framework, so that it becomes a wider scope. Also a very important aspect is the question “why is industry pushing into IPS²?” This has to be emphasized in the keynote paper. If a clear answer for that is found, the next step is to define an entrepreneurial responsibility/ownership for the future product, to intensify the motivation of IPS². So the suggestion is to enlarge framework in the following way: 1. What are the drivers of IPS²? 2. What are the entrepreneurial level / ownership? Also the social aspects of IPS² need to be regarded. But it is important not to lose the focus of the Keynote paper and to run the risk of becoming too wide and imprecise.

According to the question what is the future of IPS², several ideas came up. One idea was to create a road map of IPS² with all important issues and their working progress. Future research will focus on undone topics. New cross linking to other STC can be found and addressed. Another way is to emphasize the sustainability of IPS² in the future. Customisation of IPS2 is another important aspect and should be included in the paper. There are papers on co-design of products that could be useful for a section on co-design of IPS2.

Presentations

Within this meeting two technical presentations were given. The slides will be made available on the working group’s special web-site (www.ips2.org).

5. a Functional Process Improvement based on Integration of manufacturing and service data

Professor Ceglarek was giving a brief introduction into his field of research. He demonstrated the potentials of data mining to reduce the failure rate in service providing. He explained the procedure model using the example of Motorola.
