Prof. Dr.-Ing. Horst Meier
In 1976 Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Maßberg founded the Chair for Production Systems (LPS) in the Department for Mechanical Engineering of the Ruhr-University Bochum. Since July 1999 Prof. Dr.-Ing. Horst Meier is in charge of the LPS. The chair defines its tasks against the background of continuous changes on the business markets, with new demands on Germany as a production location |
|
The future-oriented education of graduating engineers and |
|
The development of innovative and application suitable solutions. |
Since its establishment, the LPS has not only used the continuous technical and economic changes, but also has played a major role in the creation of such modifications.
In future, the LPS will make further contributions to the current questions in the production area, thus helping to secure Germany as a production location both in its academic education and research fields. OrientationThe orientation of the LPS can be characterized by the conflict between human being, technology and organization. In the context of its research projects, the LPS regards these three variables as a unit for the improvement of the production concerning time, costs and quality. |
The relevance of industrial use is the most important feature when formulating solutions.
Therefore, the LPS runs a Pilot Plant, designed according to the most modern features, where theoretical concepts can be tested and evaluated. The LPS uses the results obtained in the pilot plant to support the technology transfer to industry. |
Fields of ActivityThe scientific orientation of the LPS covers the major topics, which are important for the modern production technology, from Production Management of flexible production structures, to the provision of production-related Services to technology-related Production Automation. |
